Anti-Racism Resources
Tragically, the effects of racism have permeated every facet of life, including our work at Harvest Home.
Poor maternal and infant health outcomes disproportionately affect black families.
Why are these numbers so high?
Tragically, research suggests that due to structural racism in our health care system, black mothers regularly receive poorer-quality care on top of suffering chronic toxic stress because of racism. This has a devastating toll on mental and physical health, resulting in a higher risk for preeclampsia, sudden infant death syndrome, low birth weight and other dire health outcomes for black women and babies.
At Harvest Home, we are heartbroken by this data. We strive to nurture and empower our residents of color to overcome systemic inequality and advocate for quality care, so they can experience what every mother deserves: the opportunity for a healthy pregnancy, safe childbirth, and a foundation for her baby to thrive.
Below is a list of other organizations working to support black mothers and babies we encourage you to learn about. Thank you for joining this conversation and partnering with us in working for justice and equality.
